Athletics Success for Students

21.07.2011

On Wednesday 6th July 2011 The Sutton Academy competed in the St Helens Town Sports Athletics Match at Wigan Robin Park. This was a hugely successful day for the Academy’s Athletics team. There were
some magnificent individual performances and impeccable behaviour throughout by all pupils.

A number of students displayed exceptional performances which deserve to be recognised. Ben Heyes of Year 7 stormed to victory in the Junior Boys 100m although he experienced a major scare in the heats when he decided to wander into another competitors’ lane during the race. After composing himself in the final, he clinched gold with a superb performance.

Ryan Houghton of Year 9 was strides ahead throughout in the Inter Boys 800m with a composed and professional performance simply outclassing the rest of the field. Liam Lane and Declan Barrow of Year 7 and 9 respectively both had majestic throws in the Javelin which saw them both win gold.

In the relay event the Year 7 Boys 4x100 team coasted to victory with excellent legs from all involved (Ben Heyes, James York, Liam Lane and Jack Bridge).

Athlete of the day was Chloe Rigby, winning the Intermediate Girls Long Jump, 100m and the High Jump. Chloe dominated all three events from start to finish taking her English Schools form into the meeting as she oozed class and sophistication throughout. Chloe is now ranked 6th in the country for High Jump which has been just reward for all her hard work and dedication.

Once again it was a superb day for all students who represented The Sutton Academy well done to all that participated.
