Cycle to Holland

08.12.2011

On Monday 28th November, students going on the PE trip to Valkenburg at Easter took part in the ‘Cycle to Holland’ Challenge. The aim was to cycle the distance from The Sutton Academy to our destination, a huge feat of endurance even for the seasoned cyclist!

The students spent the weeks leading up to the event getting sponsorship from family and friends. Some of them did admit the odd sneaky training session too!

On a very cold afternoon, they pedaled off around Sherdley Park. Each student had to cover as many laps as possible to reach the 405 miles target before the sun started to go down (we didn’t have lights!) There were some fantastic efforts from a number of students to make up the distance, in particular Declan Williamson who achieved the most laps (22) Makada Weaver who led the girls and also Joe Noctor who jogged around the course 9 times, an incredible personal achievement.

Just as the sun stopped shining on our cyclists, so did their pedaling and the final count up began. As a group they worked very hard to clock up a grand total of 421 miles, smashing their target. Well done to all the students who took part - an outstanding achievement!

Keep your eyes peeled for our Christmas Tuck Shop - opening soon!
