Democracy Week
11.11.2011As part of Democracy Week, the academy took three Year 9 students; Kayleigh Hardman, Jodie Walker and Ethan Dean along to the Town Hall for the Big Debate event.
They took part in a day jam packed with discussion and debating activities with students from schools across the borough. The big debate was based around improving our local area for young people and creating exciting ideas or events to improve the local area designed for young people by young people.
Our students did a great job, presenting in the council chamber and questioning each other. The day finished with a real vote, taken in a secret booth showing our students what it will be like for them when they are 18. The mayor presented everyone with a certificate and
declared the winning group.
Kayleigh, Jodie and Ethan were great and really got involved. Well Done to them for a fantastic day. - Mrs. Bowyer
