Indoor Athletics Championships

On Thursday 10th February The Sutton Academy hosted the St Helens Indoor Athletics Championships. There were 4 teams involved Year 7 Boys and Girls and the Year 8 Boys and Girls.

Each team performed very well and although none of the teams managed to qualify for the regional finals the Year 7 boys managed to come 3rd just 1 point off qualification. The Year 8 boys came 4th, Year 7 girls 6th and Year 8 girls also 6th.  There were some magnificent individual performances with Sutton winning the Year 7 Boys Paarlauf and individual victories for Liam Lane Yr7, Jack Highcock Yr8, Ryan Murphy Yr8 and Steven Sherwood Yr8.

Well done to all those involved.

The Year 9 Young Leaders successfully ran the whole event from start to finish giving up their own time to make sure everything ran smoothly. Damien Keegan (competitions manager) commented that the "young leaders were a credit to the academy and the event could not have ran as well as it did without them". Their roles included timekeeping, measuring demonstrating and even coaching some of the events.
