National Media Museum Trip

On Tuesday 19 April, the Media department had a combined Year 10, 11, 12 and 13 trip to the National Media Museum in Bradford.

We started our day with a visit to the IMAX cinema at the museum, watching a 3D film called ‘Mummies Alive’. The IMAX screen is as high as five double-decker buses and a massive 20 metres wide- we were given huge bug eye 3D glasses as we sat blinking like little ants at the massive screen. The museum has exhibits on animation and magic (focusing on how special effects are created in visual media) - the teaching staff on the trip shared a moment of remembered childhood when we turned a corner to see the toys from the children’s TV programme Playschool and the immortal Gordon the Gopher.

The most popular section of the museum focused on TV, with Jason Rigby trying his luck at reading the autocue to deliver the ten o’clock news whilst Dane Sheridan watched his torso disappear at the blue screen exhibit. Year 11 students particularly enjoyed filming and starring in their own soap opera - making use of the museum’s own set pieces.

Pupil behaviour was outstanding in fact the most challenging task at the end of the day was prising Year 12 and 13 boys away from their game of Pong (COD circa 1972!) - Mrs Parry-Paxton
