Opening Ceremony
21.10.2010The Opening Day was a hugely successful event that saw the academy host many visitors keen to celebrate our achievements so far.
Our student guides and ambassadors were simply superb and worked enthusiastically throughout the day to ensure everything ran smoothly. The guest speakers included Baroness Beverley Hughes, Robert Smedley Dean of the Faculty of Education, Edge Hill University and Michael Day from the TDA. Everyone enjoyed the Dance Presentation in the Arts Centre and the ‘Achievements’ DVD produced based on all our students’ work over the last half term. Mr Edwards our longest serving member of staff spoke eloquently about the past, present and future at Sutton before the Mayor of St Helens made his closing remarks.
During the day all our students and staff worked together to create identities for their new ‘Learning Communities’. This allowed students to mix with each other and each group had a theme to work with in their learning including Sport, Science, Enterprise, Culture, Achievement and Aspiration.
For the final part of the Opening Ceremony all students and staff were invited out onto the track to watch the release of the balloons to mark the ‘official’ opening.
All of the students were an absolute credit to the academy, to their families and to the staff. I would like to thank the academy staff for their hard work and dedication in making the day such a resounding success.
