The Sutton Academy Cheer Festival.

15.12.2011

Children from 3 feeder primary schools, The Sutton Academy and local community cheer team the Sutton Tornados all came together this week for a showcase at The Sutton Academy Arts Centre. The showcase was in aid of the working partnership between The Sutton Academy, St Helens Rugby League Community Development and the Sutton Tornados. This partnership has been working hard over the last 3 months to offer opportunity in local primary schools to participate in the new and exciting sport of cheerleading.

The showcase featured dances by children from Sutton Manor Primary School, Sherdley Primary School and Thatto Heath all whom performed a fuse of cheerleading skills and dance routines. Many shocked friends and family with death defying lifts and stunts and also entertained with choreographed pom dance routines and cheerleading chants.

The showcase featured boys and girls from the ages of 5-18 many of whom had never been involved in cheerleading before but as a result of the partnership many have now joined The Sutton Tornados Cheer Team and are now training hard for a competition taking place in May next year.

The night was a huge success with a packed out Arts Centre full of friends and family amongst other invited guest including Gordon Pennington ( St Helens Rugby League Community) and Tommy Makinson( St Helens Rugby League Youth Player).

The night could have not been possible without the help of the following students from The Sutton Academy 6th Form:
Rachael Bates, Danielle Houghton, Beth Smith, Glyn Price, Alex, David Reeves.

All these students showed the up most professionalism and are a real credit to their school. These students helped run the event from the build up, planning and organisation prior to the event and also on the night, acting as runners, dance coaches and also controlling music, animation and lighting. These students are real role models to other pupils at The Sutton Academy.

Another Thank you is also needed for the members of staff from the ICT technical department, Drama and Physical Education who also made this night a success through their help, assistance and guidance throughout the planning and organisation of the showcase process.

Thank you once again.
