Year 7 Stadium Tours

01.05.2012

As part of Year 7 Live 2 Learn lessons, students will be designing their own Olympic stadium.  They were given four top stadiums they could choose from to visit.

On Monday 23 April a group of students gathered to make the short journey down the road to the new Saints stadium, Langtree Park.  They were greeted by Gordon Pennington, who is the Saints Community Development Officer.  Gordon kindly took the group on the tour of the stadium were students were able to sit in the dressing room and go out on to the pitch. The students were given lots of useful information to help them with their stadium design project.

Tuesday saw a group of students and staff taking a trip down the M62 to visit the home of Liverpool Football Club, Anfield. On Wednesday it was a visit to their neighbours over at Goodison Park, Everton. To end the week on a high it was a visit to The Theatre of Dreams, Old Trafford.

The tours were very interesting and allowed the students to gain an insight into how a stadium is run and factors they need to consider when they design their own.  As part of the Old Trafford tour students were given an educational presentation based in one of the classrooms at the stadium.

The presentation was very interesting and answered a lot of the questions which students had prepared.

A great week was had by all (especially Mr Friar as seen opposite, sat in the dugout at Anfield) and the students were a credit to the academy throughout.  It will be interesting to see how the students get on with their stadium designing, and so we will keep you posted on their progress.
