Year 9 Football Match

16.09.2010

The Year 9 football team got off to a solid start to the new academic year and ran out 4-2 winners against St Cuthberts in their first game back.

The game began at a fast pace, with a goal inside two minutes from St. Cuthberts after indecision at the back from our defence.  The Sutton Academy team, comprising solely of players who play their club football for Parkdale Sidac or St. Helens Town Juniors, then equalised
with a well taken goal from Calum McLaughlan (9GLD). Sutton then played some nice football and found themselves in the ascendancy, with Kieran Curtis (9GLD) scoring just before the break to take the Sutton team in 2-1 at half time. Minutes into the second half, a speculative shot 30 yards out by a St. Cuthberts midfielder saw Sutton caught napping, and the score was now at 2-2. Sutton continued to work hard and once again took control of the game and passed the ball around comfortably. A great dribble and shot by Lewis Blakemore (9MDE) saw the score now at 3-2, before Jake Houghton (9CST) calmly planted a weighted header over the top of the outrushing goalkeeper to make the final score 4-2.

Next game: v Rainford on 5 October, Cup game (H)
