The Sutton Academy has an intake number of 270 students for Year 7 in September 2023

Please note - the academy has been over-subscribed for Year 7 places for five successive years, including September 2022.

We appreciate that choosing a school for your child is one of the most important decisions you will ever have to make, and we hope this section will give you all the necessary information on how to apply to The Sutton Academy.

Our students benefit from a modern learning environment with outstanding facilities.  This helps to create a vibrant and positive learning community which is friendly, caring and purposeful.

We are aspirational for our students and see it as our duty to ensure that all our students have the best life chances possible and eventually leave the academy well prepared to take their place in the world of the future as confident and responsible adults who are empowered to make real choices in their lives.

Applying for secondary school for September 2024

If your child turns 11 between 1 September 2023 and 31 August 2024, he or she will transfer to secondary school in September 2024.  From Wednesday 27 September the website www.sthelens.gov.uk/admissions is open for parents who wish to apply online.

You will be notified on 1 March 2024 confirming your child's school place.

The closing date for you to submit your application is 31 October 2023.

Before you apply:

• Before submitting your application, please read the Secondary Parent Booklet which contains useful information about the application process, including: how places will be allocated, definition of home address and how late applications will be dealt with.
• Also, consider how your child will get to school and the potential transport costs.
• Clarify any issues you are not sure about with staff in the school admissions team on 01744 671030 or email schooladmissions@sthelens.gov.uk.

If your child is already attending secondary school and you wish to transfer schools, please access information on how to do this via the 'Useful Links' tab below.
