New Build
The whole academy community will benefit from a 'state of the art' new two storey frontage, learning plaza spaces to develop English, Mathematics and Science, an outstanding Dance Studio and new ICT systems across all classes. The whole academy learning environment will be improved and community use facilities enhanced.
The 'new' Sutton Academy will become a centre of excellence for learning and particularly teacher training and education with our sponsors St Helens College and Edge Hill University. The building phase is due for completion in June 2013 with all staff and students working together to ensure continuity of success throughout the programme.
UPDATE: JUNE 2012
There have been some major changes across the site with demolition work in progress, particularly around the Design/Food Rooms Block, Science Rooms S10 to S13 inclusive, Textile Room A1 and The Resources Block (PR Rooms and Nurture Rooms).
During the half term part of the existing roof and walls of the Design Block, Science Rooms and Textile Room (A1) have been partly demolished by the contractor. During the destructive demolition phase, new positive construction works will also be ongoing in the above areas, with work commencing on the new open plan Main Entrance Academy 'street' which will link the new two storey building fronting Elton Head Road, to the existing Science Rooms, Art Department and Maths/MFL (Language) Blocks.
Building works are also underway around the existing English Block Courtyard and the Science/ Student Reception Courtyard, both areas will soon accommodate a new Science Learning Plaza which will be an inspirational education venue for both teaching and learning.
There are also many new engineering and ICT works in progress across the whole site which may not be obvious or particularly exciting to know about but they form the essential continuity of the redevelopment project and as such are the life blood of the scheme.
It is appreciated the site is not pretty at present for staff, students and/or visitors but it is busy and progressive, and every redevelopment day we move closer to the new Academy, which hopefully will be worth all the patience and tolerance shown by all every day.
