For Super Learning Day Food Technology had two practical cooking sessions. Session one involved students looking at ingredients used to make bread and the methods used to produce a pizza. Students then produced their own small bread roll as a practice with the ingredients before going on to make their own pizza from scratch. In session two, students were treated to a visit from Ian Southwell, a Head Chef from ABM Catering who provide the catering for the academy. Ian demonstrated to the students how pasta is made.
The session was very messy but great fun was had by all with students using pasta machines to produce Spaghetti and even Ravioli.

Super Learning Day was truly out of this world for 25 students who attended the Mars Academy. They were given the task of transporting an NFG (Nuclear Fission Generator) across the difficult terrain of Mars. After a short mission briefing students spent the morning developing solar powered transporters using motors and gearboxes. Working in teams named after the NASA shuttles, everyone enjoyed success. Obviously we didn't take the students to Mars as Mr Owens refused to pay the transport costs; the Design Department recreated the planet within D8. This created a realistic terrain on which the vehicles were tested.
