Super Learning Day

Super Learning Days are a new and innovative approach to whole school cross-curricular learning for students and staff with the aim of inspiring our ‘Living to Learn’ ethos.

Super Learning Day

Welcome

The theme of the Super Learning day on 15th November celebrates the fact that our school is developing a specialism in the Sciences: all staff have worked together to integrate 'S.T.E.M.' across the curriculum. (S.T.E.M. means Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics'). Students will enjoy a wide variety of challenges which will enhance their ability to think and create using skills common to STEM approaches: these include building pasta towers and designing and making apps.

As in previous events, all students will participate in one of the key home groups called: 'Sugar', 'Dream', 'Hawking', 'Mandela' or 'Bolt'. Students in Years 7,8,9 & 10 will work alongside teams of staff from different subjects to immerse themselves in activities that foster enthusiasm for creativity, collaborative skills, inquiry, problem solving, data-handling and practical skills. Several of these activities involve visits to resources beyond our school.

This year, the Super Learning Day timetable has been extended to cover the duration of a regular school schedule ie the day begins at 8.30am with 'Ready to Learn' time in Tutor Groups and the event will end at 2.40pm. All students will be expected to attend school wearing the following uniform items: TSA black sports shirt, TSA fleece, comfortable trousers and footwear (unless directed otherwise by a letter outlining specific reuirements for the activity being undertaken).

Attendance is compulsory: the STEM Learning Day is an important part of the school curriculum and as such it is regarded as a regular school day with an alternative curriculum approach. The arrangements for lunch and transport to and from school are as usual.

Staff and students will be justified in looking forward to an exciting and rewarding day of fun and interactive learning opportunities whereby they will work with other people to complete challenges and experience activities that will help them to appreciate their own roles in the exciting world of Science and Technology. Watch this space for news of the achievements of our students and staff on the day.
