Geography

Introduction

In Geography you will learn about some of the key issues in today’s world. You will study a range of human and physical topics, covering everything from Earthquakes and Volcanoes to Global Cities and Population. You will also learn a wide range of new skills that will help you in other subjects as you move through the Academy.

PACE - Years 7 & 8 

What will I study?
  • Earthquakes and Volcanoes
  • Population
  • Weather and Climate
  • Ecosystems
  • Glaciation
  • Globalisation
  • Rivers and Flooding
How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed with GCSE style assessments at the end of topics that will prepare you for GCSE assessments in the future.

Key Stage 4 – Years 9, 10 & 11 

What will I study?

You will follow Eduqas Geography Specification B and will cover the following 3 themes;

  • Changing Places- Changing Economies
  • Changing Environments
  • Environmental Challenges
What skills will I develop?

You will develop a range of research and communication skills linked to the topics that are being studied. You will also learn a range of specialised data collection fieldwork techniques as well as data anaylsis skills.

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed regularly throughout the 3 year course but you will finish by completed 3 exams at the end of Y11. One exam is based on the content of the course, the second is a problem solving paper and the final paper will assess your understanding of the fieldwork completed.

Key Stage 5

What will I study?

You will follow Edexcel GCE Geography and the following topics will be studied;

  • Globalisation
  • Tectonics
  • Diverse Places
  • Coastal Landscapes
  • Geopolitics
  • Water and Energy Security
What skills will I develop?

You will build on the skills from GCSE while developing  independent  research techniques and analytical writing. You will also develop investigative skills when planning and executing your individual research piece at the end of A Level.

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed regularly throughout the year using exam questions and a range of reports. Your exams will consist of assessment of the content taught and assessment of understanding of all of the fieldwork undertaken during the course.
