Sports Students Excel in the TCAT Sports+ Programme

Our sports students shine at TCAT Sports+ Programme
Our Sports students have continued to shine as part of the TCAT Sports+ programme, taking part in a series of high‑level workshops designed to deepen their understanding of sports performance, science and athlete development. Over the past few months, students have embraced every opportunity, gaining valuable practical experience and advanced knowledge across a wide range of sporting disciplines.
Day 1 at LJMU – A Strong Start to the Programme
In December, students visited Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU) for the first day of the Sports+ programme. They took part in a number of specialist practical workshops, including:
- Maximal fitness tracking
- Biomechanics & sprinting lecture
- Motion biomechanics workshop
- Injury prevention workshop
Students used specialist equipment and worked alongside industry professionals to explore how performance is measured and improved at elite level. This hands‑on experience allowed them to link their classroom learning with real‑world sports science applications, further strengthening their understanding of the subject.
Day 2 – Deepening Knowledge Through Advanced Sports Science
In January, students returned for Day 2 of the TCAT Sports+ programme, diving even deeper into the science of athletic performance. This session introduced them to more advanced physiological concepts and practical techniques, including:
- Cardiovascular Physiology – assessing the health and function of the heart and blood vessels
- Altitude Chamber Experience – discovering how the body responds to reduced oxygen levels
- Sports Nutrition Lecture – exploring how athletes fuel for training and competition
- Muscle Contraction Workshop – investigating muscle fibre types using microscopes
- Carbohydrate Loading Workshop – planning nutrition strategies for peak performance
Once again, students showed outstanding focus and enthusiasm, engaging brilliantly in each workshop and applying their growing scientific knowledge to real sporting scenarios.
The third and final day of the TCAT Sports+ programme will take place later this year, and our students are already looking forward to continuing their journey and expanding their skillset even further.
We are incredibly proud of all the students involved. Your dedication, curiosity and professionalism throughout both days have been exceptional. Opportunities like these not only strengthen your academic understanding but also prepare you for future careers within sport and exercise science.
Well done to everyone taking part—you continue to impress!
