Investing in a Greener Future

Academy Sustainability Update

The Sutton Academy continues to make impressive strides toward becoming a more environmentally conscious and energy‑efficient community. A series of completed and upcoming projects are helping us lower energy consumption, reduce carbon emissions, and build a more sustainable environment for students, staff, and families.

LED Lighting Upgrade Completed
We are delighted to confirm that the academy has fully upgraded to an energy‑efficient LED lighting system throughout all buildings.  By replacing older fixtures with modern LEDs, we have significantly reduced electricity usage while improving lighting quality across classrooms and shared spaces. This achievement marks a key milestone in our efforts to cut operational
emissions and enhance the learning environment.

Solar Panel Installation Starting in February
Our sustainability work continues in February with the installation of a new solar panel system. Once fully operational, this project is expected to reduce the academy’s carbon emissions by 61.98 tonnes of CO₂ each year. Alongside its environmental benefits, the system will strengthen our long‑term energy resilience and help manage future energy costs more effectively.

On‑Site EV Charging Facilities
To encourage greener travel choices, the academy is also introducing new electric vehicle (EV) charging points on site. These chargers will be available for staff and visitors, supporting the use of low‑emission vehicles and contributing to a reduction in transport‑related carbon output. This development complements our wider commitment to promoting sustainable behaviours across the academy community.

Improved Waste Recycling and New Food‑Waste Bins
As part of our broader sustainability strategy, we are enhancing our waste‑reduction efforts across the academy. A key focus is the introduction of new food‑waste recycling bins in dining areas and key communal spaces.
