Year 7 Girls – St Helens Cup Plate Final

The Year 7 girls competed in the St Helens Cup Plate final against Hope Academy.

It was a tightly contested match, with few clear chances in the first half. With both teams evenly matched, it was always likely to come down to who took their opportunities. Unfortunately, it was Hope Academy who struck first, taking a 1–0 lead just before half-time.

TSA began the second half brightly, with Katie Latham and Amber Robinson using their pace to create several promising opportunities. It came as no surprise when a trademark run from Katie Latham ended with the ball finding the back of the net to level the score.

TSA continued to dominate possession and went close to taking the lead on a number of occasions, with Caitlin Smith coming closest to scoring.

As the game entered the final five minutes, tensions were high. Mr Appleton’s Year 7 side continued to press for a winner, but Hope Academy defended resolutely. Unfortunately, against the run of play, Hope Academy scored an opportunist goal late on, leaving TSA with little time to respond.

It was a cruel end to what was an exhilarating final. Although the girls were understandably upset, they acquitted themselves excellently and, on balance, were the better team on the day. This experience will only make them stronger, and they can take great pride in their performance. The staff and parent supporters were incredibly proud of them.
