Fortnightly the teacher provides an extract linked to the subject which is read together as a group. Examples include students reading about Grenfell in Construction to the gender pay gap in PE. The literature selected is picked specifically for each year group and the curriculum they are studying. The initiative supports students knowledge in that subjects area but also allows teachers to explore new vocabulary and subject links outside of the classroom.

There is no “silver bullet” to students achieving their potential but developing reading skills and vocabulary are pretty close.  This has underpinned a lot of the work this term. The English faculty surprised a number of Year 8 students with a mystery book as a gift, which even earnt a retweet from Marcus Rashford!
