The Academy was filled with festive spirit on Tuesday 17 March as students and staff took part in a rich programme of activities to mark St Patrick’s Day. The celebration offered students the chance to explore Irish culture through a variety of creative, sporting and educational experiences woven across the curriculum.
Throughout the day, each department brought the theme to life. In PE, students were introduced to Gaelic football, while Childcare students completed Irish‑themed painting tasks. Year 12 students enjoyed decorating Irish‑inspired cakes and biscuits, and Music lessons focused on traditional folk instruments.
In Food Technology, classes baked fresh soda bread, and the Gold group welcomed a live snake, linking directly to the famous legend of St Patrick banishing snakes from Ireland. Over in English, students studied Cathleen by Irish poet Nuala Ní Dhomhnaill, exploring cultural identity through literature.
A highlight of the day was a school‑wide treasure hunt, with students racing to locate all 32 Irish counties hidden around the building. The celebrations will continue with an Irish dancing session after school on Thursday 19 March, with sign‑up available on Class Charts.
To add to the atmosphere, students were invited to wear a single green accessory, such as a bow, scarf or bag, while still attending in full academy uniform.
The event forms part of the Academy’s ongoing commitment to celebrating cultures from around the world, giving students valuable opportunities to broaden their understanding and appreciate the diversity within the school community.
The Academy looks forward to more exciting day's of learning, creativity and cultural celebration.
