Key Information

Our Vision and Values
At The Sutton Academy, we believe that every young person should be recognised for the positive contributions they make to our community. Our revised rewards and recognition programme is rooted in a culture of high expectations, mutual respect, inclusion and aspiration. We celebrate academic success alongside effort, resilience, kindness, leadership and teamwork – the values that prepare our students for life beyond the academy.
Why Rewards and Recognition Matter
Positive recognition plays a vital role in motivating students and shaping behaviour. By recognising success regularly and fairly, we reinforce positive habits, strengthen relationships and create a calm, purposeful learning environment where students feel valued and supported.
How the System Works
Staff recognise positive attitudes, behaviours and achievements in lessons and around the academy. Rewards are recorded on Class Charts, allowing students and parents/carers to clearly see the House Points awarded.
Rewards Across the Year
Students are recognised through a wide range of rewards including daily praise and House points; weekly celebrations such as attendance rewards and Sutton ‘Shout-outs’; half-termly and termly awards including Student of the Month and Faculty Heroes; and annual celebration events recognising sustained commitment and excellence.
House System and Community Spirit
The House system sits at the heart of our rewards programme, promoting teamwork, pride and healthy competition. Students earn House points for exemplifying academy values, strong attendance and participation in challenges and competitions, building a strong sense of belonging.
Sutton ‘Shout-outs’
Sutton ‘Shout-outs’ celebrate students who consistently demonstrate academy values. Staff nominations are shared with parents/carers, displayed across the academy and celebrated publicly, ensuring positive role models are recognised and celebrated.
Attendance and Commitment
Regular attendance is fundamental to academic success. We recognise strong attendance through frequent rewards and recognition, reinforcing the importance of being present, punctual and ready to learn every day.
Working in Partnership with Parents/Carers
Parents and carers are key partners in supporting success. Achievements are shared through Class Charts and communications home, encouraging families to celebrate success together and reinforce positive behaviours.
Looking Ahead
The rewards and recognition programme is reviewed regularly to ensure it remains inclusive, meaningful and motivating. Student voice and stakeholder feedback help shape how we celebrate success at The Sutton Academy.
